Dong Jingwei is kind of a big deal. He’s a vice minister of State Security, essentially China’s head spy catcher, and he’s also said to be close to Pooh Bear, having assisted in his rise to the top.
RedState and Chinese-language blogs are reporting that in February this year he defected to the United States’ Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) and handed over a treasure trove of material. Some mainstream sites have now picked up the story.
Here’s what he’s said to have provided, via RedState:
– Early pathogenic studies of the virus we now know as SARS-CoV-2
– Models of predicted COVID-19 spread and damage to the US and the world
– Financial records detailing which exact organizations and governments funded the research on SARS-CoV-2 and other biological warfare research
– Names of US citizens who provide intel to China
– Names of Chinese spies working in the US or attending US universities
– Financial records showing US businessmen and public officials who’ve received money from the Chinese government
– Details of meetings US government officials had (perhaps unwittingly) with Chinese spies and members of Russia’s SVR
– How the Chinese government gained access to a CIA communications system, leading to the death of dozens of Chinese people who were working with the CIA
These revelations are said to be behind the Biden handlers’ change of tune on the lab leak theory and the sidelining of Fauci and others in the US who supported the Wuhan lab.
With the release of his name, the South China Morning Post (SCMP) has responded with an article containing fresh statements from Dong in a seminar in which he warns Chinese intelligence agencies to watch out for dastardly foreign spies.
While the article does not mention the rumours about his defection, it is clearly meant to show that he is still in China and 100% on board with the CCP. It contains no new photos or video of him. These days, anything emanating from the SCMP can be taken as the official CCP line.
There are two ways of looking at this.
The first, pushed by wumao, is that the whole thing was CCP misinformation campaign intended to discredit Western media organs foolish enough to fall for it. High ranked sources release false info, gullible media sources run with it, the SCMP reveals the truth and RedState et al have egg all over their faces.
That seems a little far-fetched. Perhaps they were hoping to embarrass Fox and the Daily Mail, which stayed out of the matter until the last twenty-four hours and only reported developments as rumour. It seems like a costly exercise just to get at RedState. And, since when are journalists embarrassed by publishing misinformation, on either side? Have the CCP’s America-watchers been asleep for the past eight years?
The other possibility is even more remarkable:
If Dong’s defection is true, that means he specifically chose to defect to the DIA rather than to the CIA, presumably because the material he holds reveals how the latter is highly compromised. This would also explain why the DIA kept the defection secret for months from the CIA, FBI and probably all other agencies.
The don’t trust them.
It’s all deep state stuff but the DIA seems less murky than the rest.
Keep in mind that the Pentagon and CIA are already fighting a proxy war against each other – a real war, with bullets – by backing different players in the Middle East. Defense supports the Kurds while the CIA provides clandestine support to Al Qaida affiliates fighting Assad – and perhaps to ISIS too, directly or through Israeli or Saudi agencies.
In other words, the United States is already fighting a proxy Civil War.
It is also interesting that leaks from the DIA have been reaching such unusual outlets: RedState and Chinese opposition blogs. Not Fox. Certainly not CNN, BBC and so on, most of whom have not yet mentioned the story at all.
This could be because the DIA knows the dirt they have on Chinese infiltration across the West is dangerous and that a lot of people would very much like to make it disappear. Perhaps they saw the need to release the main points to the public via sympathetic outlets in order to make it harder for their enemies to memory-hole it completely.
It’s hard to imagine a purge taking place given that the ‘Biden Administration’ (we need a better name for it) is in charge. For starters, a lot of the material apparently relates to Hunter Biden and plenty no doubt also demonstrates Chinese cash-taking by various people who supported Biden’s rise to power, if you can call it that.
Perhaps a patriot in the DIA will cut the Gordian Knot in WikiLeaks style, by a massive release of raw data online. That would set the cat among the pigeons, and be an extremely dangerous thing to do.
We like to think there might still be heroes in the upper echelons of Western military forces but likely they’ve been rooted out by now.
And a final point: where is Dong and who is protecting him? I’m surprised he dared trust anyone in the United States after Epstein didn’t kill himself.
If Dong is in the US, let’s hope he lasts long enough to achieve some good.
