Via @SelimSeesYou, here’s a map of BLM protests around the world:
[Edit: the image disappeared because Selim’s account was banned for being truthful. I have replaced it with a map of #BlackLivesMatter tweets just after Darren Wilson was let off, which is about the same. There are more dots in south-eastern Australia, where people actually live, hidden by the key]
A loose proxy for who has really bought in on USG ideology & who has not.
Some of these dots are complicated. In Nigeria, the protests were about local police killings unrelated to race. In Japan, the protests reflected local African and other minority complaints of poor treatment by police, accompanied by some Westerners and the native left wing.
A Moscovite denied any protest had taken place there at all, in a comment I had to translate from the Russian. Other dots are similarly questionable, often reflecting local concerns more than worries about St. Floyd.
However, places where you see many dots can be presumed to reflect hegemonic US cultural influence. In other words, Woke is there. It dominates North America, Western Europe and Australasia. And Israel, which will surprise many. This is the notably non-WEIRD nation in the group.
There are aspects of Woke in other countries but it has not yet taken over to the same extent as in the Western world. Taiwan recognizes gay marriage but does not permit mass migration. There are highly feminist laws in Brazil but they have a Trumpian leader.
Matt Forney reports that Woke is growing in Eastern Europe:
Latin America is more “trad” than Europe, if that’s your thing. Outside of Argentina, Uruguay, and Mexico City, most Latinos don’t give a shit about the woke bugaboos consuming the West. Poland will legalize gay marriage by 2025. Trad Eastern Europe is a myth.
Some replies dispute this, claiming Woke is also taking over Latin America.
Africa is about as likely to become Woke as it is to build cross-continental bullet trains. It’s hard to be Woke when you’re hungry and the power keeps going off.
I’ve heard South Korea is edging towards Woke. Japan, much less so. Nothing really changes there. SE Asia is not Woke. As for other areas, let us know in the comments.
There’s no point, say, in expatting from the US to Australia, or from Australia to New Zealand. Same shit, different bucket. Either go to an unWoke country or find a friendly region within your own.
