Starting off with some local news that I can’t link:
I mentioned earlier that special people don’t have to follow lockdown laws here, which makes them pretty useless even if they could theoretically work.
Well, it happened again. The governor’s wife, lawyer and a few others went to Manlia for a meeting on a private plane and didn’t have to quarantine upon return because they’re more specialler.
The lawyer first visited his mistress in the town north of mine, then returned to his family in the town south of mine, then went here and there around town even after getting a fever and finally he tested positive for the cov.
So now some areas are locked down again.
Local media are not too critical of the governor because those who’ve previously been critical of him were shot by men on motorbikes who never seem to get caught.
There’s much more I could say but that will do for now. It’s hard for a WEIRD person to comprehend how utterly corrupt the Third World is until you’ve lived here.
DT on the lockdown (slightly NSFW):
Look I love the squirrels and sunshine but it’s fucking enough of this house arrest. The vaccine makes your T cells gnaw through the nerves in your spine and the drugs will be horseshit and it’s time to let the obese, elderly and immunocompromised die. Sorry fattie. I’m sure there’s a buffet in heaven.
Eight months was plenty. CA governor Gavin Newsom who should not be shot and LA mayor Eric Garcetti who should not be dragged behind a Jeep over 12 miles of cholla cactus will never let this lockdown end. There will always be some reason to extend it. Save the old people the fat people the poor little abuelitas, boo hoo.
About that magic vaccine that’s going to make everything go back to normal . . .
However, scientists have warned a vaccine will not be a “silver bullet” in tackling the virus, which is likely to continue to circulate.
While benefits of a vaccine include reducing the threat for high-risk individuals and lessening the risk of people falling seriously ill, the inoculation will not usher in a return to normal life.
Mr Whitty has said a vaccine will likely have a 40–60 per cent efficacy, comparable to a flu jab.
Meanwhile, the Oxford team developing a vaccine have set a target of 50 per cent protection.
Face it, mate: you’re not allowed to eat out or drink or dance or travel or go to the gym ever again because you’ll kill granny. This will last FOREVER.
Don’t be selfish.
Oh and apparently Remdesivir doesn’t work either.
There’s been a spike in suicides in Japan. This is one of the few countries that regularly published data on the issue so it may be the canary in the goldmine.
Japan only had a soft lockdown and only for a short time. Most of the added distress seems to be coming from lost jobs and other economic problems. The effect elsewhere may end up being greater.
Just as few people die from Covid alone, few will take their lives purely due to a job loss or lockdown stress. Rather, this will pile one more serious problem onto the shoulders of those who are already struggling with other issues.
This New York Post article got censored on Twitter and Facebook for reasons that keep changing by the hour. In any case, one notes with interest that the Biden camp has not disputed the veracity of the emails.
The best take on this came again from DT, who said it that getting a laptop wet, dumping it at a repair shop then forgetting about it was exactly the kind of thing he used to do when he was off his tits.
I’ve mentioned before that many African schools are much more orderly than troubled black American schools. Here is part of the explanation: federal racial discipline quotas.
Doctor loses his job for dissenting from the lockdown policy.
Are you a numbnut like me who can’t understand the potential significance of false positives on Covid tests? Hector Drummond breaks it down for us.
Also from HD, why the New Zealand success story only works if time stops right now.
The PM just won reelection there. Adam P describes it as a Big Mommy government.
There seems to be a competition for which country has had the longest or strictest lockdown. One contender is Argentina, now under lockdown for 200 days. The policy doesn’t appear to have helped.
Similar story in Peru.
You know how I was talking about some criticism of lockdowns coming out of the WHO? How could I have missed it . . . the man dissenting was the rival for Tedros’ job. He came up in my series on China, Tedros and the WHO but I clear forgot who he was.
A depressing story about how masks alienate friends from each other.
This is a good background article about the war in the Caucasus.
China threatens to hold Americans hostage.
The premier (like the governor) of the Australian state of New South Wales has admitted an affair with a local member of parliament now in trouble for all sorts of alleged corruption. There are hints that she may have turned a blind eye to his shenanigans or even, whatever, but that’s still to be tested. One might wonder if he initiated the relationship in order to . . . oh, never mind.
Here they are:
Meanwhile in Japan, it’s been a bad week for the Fuzz with one police officer being caught downloading dirty movies on a suspects phone and another arrested for throwing bodily fluids onto womens’ bags. And then there was the black bear that rammed a police car and punctured its tire.
